A young man was hiking through the woods and after a morning of hiking found himself to be famished. He sat down on the edge of a rock and noticed a butterfly fluttering around him. The butterfly fluttered away a few feet and then came back to him several times and the man began to wonder what the butterfly was up to. It seemed that the butterfly wanted the man to follow him and having nothing else better to do, he decided to follow the butterfly.
Down an abandoned and long forgotten path that was carpeted with brambles and edged with thorns they went till then came to a glorious light filled clearance that was filled with thousands of butterflies.
In the middle of the clearing was a tree unlike any tree the man had ever seen; lush green and full of an odd fruit. As it turns out, this tree was in the middle of the place where butterflies feel the safest and had received pollen from every fruit tree in the region. Being hungry, the man decided to try the fruit and it was absolutely delicious. It tasted on the first juicy bite like strawberries. The second bite was better than the first which tasted like blueberries and then cantaloupe after which the man was so overwhelmed by all of the flavors that he lost track.
He gathered up a couple and took them back to town. He stopped on a bench to rest and one of his neighbors noticed the unique fruit. He asked for one and tasting it felt that it was the best fruit that he had ever had. He offered the man a dollar and it wasn’t for sale. Two dollars? Three dollars? Finally he sold the fruit for twenty dollars.
The next day three people were waiting in the park for him all of which had twenty dollar bills for this fruit. Over the next couple of weeks, the man had an extremely profitable fruit stand now selling each for twenty five dollars each.
After making a tidy sum the man wondered if he should contact the local farmers and see if they could harvest the seeds so that there would be fruit for everyone. Other people would actually benefit from my efforts! After thinking about it, he figured that since he found the tree and since he did the work of bringing the fruit to town then he and he alone should profit from his efforts.
Later that fall an unusual early frost came that was bone chilling. So cold and so sudden it was almost as if the entire North Pole had settled on his little town. As soon as he could he decided to go back to his tree but he noticed that all of the leaves had fallen off and the fruit had turned black and withered. The seeds had also turned black and were also useless. With that frost went his tree and along with it his unique tree.
That is why you have never tasted this wonderful fruit in any store. The good news is that there are still butterflies with secrets yet to share with you. Stay alert for your opportunity and learn the lesson of the tree.
