Day Four
“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”
Taken from the Gospel of John Chapter 13 verse 8
This passage taken from the foot washing of the disciples and provides a challenging insight into the faith. When it was Peter’s turn to have his feet washed by Jesus, he was embarrassed perhaps by their unsightliness and didn’t want The Christ to see that side of him. The response of Jesus “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me” among other things lets you know that a superficial faith is no faith at all. The demands of true spirituality are such that even the elements of your life that you would much rather forget must be placed before God as the building blocks of your continued journey.
This perhaps is the most painful element of spiritual growth, coming face to face with those aspects of your nature that you have spent a lifetime avoiding, ignoring and rationalizing away. Having already on your journey extended forgiveness to those who have wronged you, the time has now come to seek reconciliation with those whom you have wronged. This is necessary for it is that act of seeking to be reconciled to those you have offended grants you the inner cleansing that your spirit
Reconciliation therefore is not sought because of the worthiness of the other person, or anything for that matter that is intrinsic in them. Reconciliation is sought because of the journey that you now are on. To truly pursue the divine with any sense of integrity demands that you extend to others the grace and forgiveness that you yourself seek.
As your spirit leads, begin the process of being reconciled to someone that you have wronged as an expression of your desire for the Christ to cleanse you.
