Our Children at The Border
wither as flowers
cut before they could blossom
weeping uncomforted and alone.
Innocent children left to languish
under the illusion of hope
and within eyesight of opportunity.
Dreams deferred have a breath of life
bolstered by the hope
that one day their light will shine;
but dreams denied are seeds
that will never grow
while entombed behind barbed wire
and planted in steel cages.
