You are preparing to embark on what for you will be one of life’s greatest of challenges. It would be unfair for you to begin your journey without a roadmap of sorts so I have decided to share with you what I have learned on my journey. Some of my insights will help; others will be dated to the era in which I have lived. Nonetheless, here are a few words of encouragement as you begin to find your own way.
First of all, understand that the world owes you absolutely nothing. There are no doors that will automatically open for you, no red carpet that will magically unfurl before your feet. Everything that you obtain will come from your hard work and belief in yourself alone. The world is little more than a stage on which your life will be played; prayerfully successfully. Beyond the opportunity that life presents, there are no entitlements, no free lunches, and no free passes.
As you launch, know yourself. You are blessed with talents that you have yet to unleash. Your unique talents and abilities will be for you a blueprint that will outline clearly the road on which you are to travel. No one will know this path as clearly as you so accept the inevitable loneliness that comes as you begin to chart your path. Be courageous enough to find your way as you come to understand the path on which you must walk.
You will notice that I have not placed an emphasis on scholastic degrees. The funny thing about degrees is that they have little power in and of themselves; the power that they have is the effect that they have on the person that obtains them. We have been told for so long that education alone is the path to life’s success so much so that people who obtain degrees believe that they will now be successful. The funny thing is that it is not the degree that makes them successful but rather the expectation of success that causes them to believe strongly that success is just around the corner. To believe that is to face life with an energy that makes it so. Believe in your own road to success and success will make its way to you.
Although you must chart your own path, know that you will never be truly successful alone. You will have to work with others in order to be fully successful. That being the case, do understand that on that road, selling is at the heart of everything. Selling collaborations, partnerships and initiatives is a skill that is not innate but rather one that you must learn. The key to selling is not so much in imposing your will on someone but rather in granting a friend the option of sharing in a wonderful opportunity that is in their best interest.
Success is above all meeting an unmet need with compassionate service. The critical key is to always do this on a wholesale level by multiplying your efforts through others. You will never have any difficulty locating people willing to partner with you as long as are behind them encouraging their success. Do this and you will find that you are in fact over them.
Learn the lesson of migrating birds; they locate and find the winds that will make their journey successful. Become keenly aware of the economic winds of your time and allow them to boost you to success that you will never be able to obtain on your efforts alone.
Also, never forget that God delights in prospering those who honor him. Remember him in all that you do and true success will always find you. Best of luck on your journey and know that I am always behind you.
